SKATE

At Mundo-Surf we focus on guiding you, not on selling boards at random. So let’s start with the basics: in our skate section you’ll find all the gear you need for the different disciplines—surfskate, skateboard, longboard and cruiser boards. Surfskate simulates the movement of surfing on dry land thanks to a special truck system that lets you pump and carve without pushing off the ground. A traditional skateboard is more straightforward: designed for tricks, speed and urban style. You’ll find complete, ready-to-ride setups, but also every single part to build and customize your own board: decks, trucks, wheels, bearings, bushings, grip tape and control and safety accessories.

What really makes the difference here is knowing what you’re looking for: if you want to feel the motion of surfing without water, a surfskate with responsive trucks is the way to go. If you’d rather learn tricks or simply cruise with style, a stiff-deck skateboard gives you more control. The choice of components—weight, wheel size, bushing hardness—depends on the type of board and your personal style. That’s why, before buying, the first question I ask is: is this for getting started, for technique training, or simply for enjoying the ride?

Complete surfskate and skateboard guide: frequently asked questions

What is surfskate and how is it different from a traditional skateboard?

Skate is a sport practiced with a board that glides over different surfaces. There are several clearly distinct disciplines. Surfskate uses special trucks that allow for a pumping and turning motion very similar to surfing: you don’t need to push with your foot, you move by flowing with your body. A traditional skateboard is more rigid in its steering and is designed for tricks and transportation. A longboard offers straight-line stability and speed; a cruiser combines maneuverability with comfort for city cruising. At Mundo-Surf we have everything you need to practice any of these variants, and our team can advise you according to your level and goals.

How to start riding surfskate and skateboard as a beginner?

If you’re a beginner and hesitating between two options to start with, it’s best to prioritize stability over any other consideration. Look for an area with smooth ground, place your feet on the board and work on your balance before trying anything else. One important thing to keep in mind: how you distribute your weight on the board defines everything that comes next. Wearing pads and a helmet is essential, especially at the beginning; falls are inevitable, serious injuries don’t have to be. Once you feel confident on the board, movement starts to flow more naturally. In the water, this translates into the fact that those who have worked on their balance on land hit the ocean with a much more solid foundation. The difference between surfskate and skateboard at this stage is the physical effort: on surfskate you pump with your body; on skateboard you push with your foot. Choose based on what appeals to you most.

What maneuvers and tricks can you learn on skateboard and surfskate?

It’s important to reach a basic level of control over the board before trying any tricks, as falls at that stage can lead to more serious injuries. The foundational skateboard trick is the Ollie: a jump that generates height by popping the tail. Once you’ve mastered the Ollie, you can try it fakie—riding backwards—or move on to more complex tricks: Kickflip, Heelflip, Pop Shove-It. On surfskate, typical maneuvers are closer to those in surfing: cutbacks, smooth carving, changes of direction driven by shoulder rotation. The difference lies in the intention: in skateboarding, the trick is the goal; in surfskate, the continuous movement is the reward. Work on your basic form before attempting any more demanding maneuvers.
